History of the parish
Parish of Bethany is a fictitious parish created for the purpose of presenting and demonstrating the Parish Portal system.
According to local tradition, the roots of parish life in Bethany go back to the second half of the nineteenth century, when believers from the village began to meet regularly for communal prayer and Sunday devotions. In the first years, services were held only occasionally in a small chapel, but gradually the desire to create an independent parish community with its own spiritual administrator and permanent liturgical background matured.
An important milestone in the history of the village was the period of construction of the parish church of Saint Lazarus, which became the new spiritual center of the local believers. The church was built with great dedication by local families, who contributed labor, materials, and financial donations. After its completion, sacramental life, catechesis for children and youth, and the communal celebration of major liturgical feasts began to develop more regularly in the parish.
Later, a branch church of Saint Martha and Mary was also built in the outskirts of the parish. From the beginning, this church served believers as a place for quiet prayer, smaller liturgical celebrations, and meetings of parish communities. Its dedication was naturally connected with a spiritual emphasis on service, hospitality, and fidelity to the word of Christ, which are closely associated with the figures of Martha and Mary.
During its development, the parish went through several periods of growth and trials. Generations of priests succeeded one another, dedicating themselves not only to spiritual administration but also to the renovation of parish buildings, the development of communal life of believers, and the support of families. Gradually, parish prayer groups, a choir, a ministry of altar servers, and regular meetings for children and youth were established. Charitable assistance to elderly and lonely parishioners also became an important part of parish life.
Today, the Parish of Bethany is a community that wishes to remain faithful to the Gospel in everyday life. With respect, it builds on the spiritual heritage of previous generations while simultaneously seeking new ways to accompany families, children, youth, and seniors. By its name and spiritual focus, it recalls a place of friendship, acceptance, and encounter with Christ.
